History of Capital Ceramics

In 1949 Merle Peratis moved to Salt Lake City and started a company based on helping other artists start their own ceramics companies.  Merle was a leader in women-owned businesses long before they were common.  Not only did she build the business but she was a leader in establishing ceramic organizations and held many officer positions.

Throughout her career she reached out to many in the United States with magazine articles and lectures on the art of ceramics.  Her daughters joined her in the business and together they built the largest pottery and ceramic retailer and wholesaler in Utah and its surrounding states.  With dedicated customers, great service, fair pricing and commitment to integrity Capital Ceramics the company has become a respected member of the clay arts community.

Sadly, as time goes on, things must change.  Merle Peratis is now 95 years old and happily enjoying her success after only recently retiring from the business.  Her daughters have also decided to hang up their aprons, so the business was sold to Kenneth Mangum.

The managers at Capital Ceramics are committed to growing the business even further through the use of internet technology, direct sales, expanded product offerings, retail store enhancements and the support of artists and art events.  The company will continue its pledge of service, fair pricing and integrity.  It is our pledge to you, and to Mrs. Merle!

Our Commitment to You

Our goal is that customers will a leave our store happy.  We pledge to continue our long history of great service, fair pricing and integrity.

If you feel unsatisfied at any time with the quality of our products or service, please call the Manager Jennifer at 801-466-6471 and we will do what we can to make it right!
